I hope this has helped with some of the confusion if you use Topaz products. I teach a couple workshops a year on Topaz's creative programs including Simplify, Glow, Texture Effects, and Impression. Previously, if you wanted to use Impression AND Texture Effects, you would have to save the image you created in Impression and then re-open it in Texture Effects. Thank goodness we don't have to do THAT! BLAH! You can apply a texture in Texture Effects, then open Impression for a painterly look, then bring it into Clarity to finish it off. It's like applying different looks and effects in Photoshop without having to leave Photoshop between layers. So what's the bonus? The advantage to Topaz Studio is that you can simply jump from one amazing Topaz Program to another without ever having to leave Studio. But it's just a transition that we have to suffer through to get to the bonus at the end. Is this utterly frustrating? You Bet it is!! I've taught 2 Topaz Labs workshops during this transition and it's been a real pain. See the screen shot below and the info following it. So if you download Topaz Studio and you already own from say a year ago, for example, Impression as a plug-in to Photoshop or Lightroom, you will be able to access Impression BOTH from your original host programs as well as within the Studio Software. One by one, Topaz is moving their individual programs like Impression, Clarity, Glow. You can download more free and paid adjustments and presets, like the newest one AI ReMix, that I mentioned yesterday. It's actually great for new photographers who don't want to subscribe to the monthly Adobe programs.
